After three days of strike, the teachers decided to suspend the protests from November 13 as the Government and the Education and Science Trade Unions initiated talks over salary rises. <\/p>\n

Such a decision was made at a meeting of the Executive Bureau of the Education and Science Trade Unions on November 12. <\/p>\n

Contacted by REPORTER.MD, the vice president of the Education and Science Trade Unions Nadejda Lavric said that a working group composed of trade unionists and representatives of the Government will be set up to carry out the talks.

\nLavric said that some of the educational institutions could continue protesting because the decision to start of stop the strike is taken in every institution apart. <\/p>\n

Approximately 40,000 teachers and educators from about 1,300 schools and kindergartens in 25 districts of the country took part in the strike. Among universities, only the teaching staff of the Balti State University joined the strike on the first day. <\/p>\n

The educational institutions that had been on strike will decide by themselves when they will give the untaught lessons, on Saturdays or during the week. <\/p>\n

The teachers demand raising the first category salary to 900 lei from January 1, 2009 and to the minimum subsistence level from July 2009, hastening the adoption of the Educational Code and of the Law on the Minimum Subsistence Level.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
