Teachers from all over the country staged a protest on November 10, demanding that their salaries are raised. Though present at the workplace, the teachers did not give lessons. <\/p>\n

Contacted by REPORTER.MD, the vice president of the Education and Science Trade Union Nadejda Lavric said that the strike will continue for an indefinite period until their demands are satisfied. The Trade Union demands that the Government initiate talks over the rise in all teachers’ salaries. \"\"<\/p>\n

Lavric said that she does not yet possess information about the total number of educational institutions that went on strike because many of them gave up in the last moment. <\/p>\n

She also said that the educational institutions that are on strike will decide by themselves when they will give the untaught lessons, on Saturdays or during the week. <\/p>\n

The teachers demand raising the first category salary to 900 lei from January 1, 2009 and to the minimum subsistence level from July 2009, hastening the adoption of the Educational Code and of the Law on the Minimum Subsistence Level. <\/p>\n

The Ministry of Education and Youth has not yet expressed its official position on the steps taken by the teachers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
