The Unites States presented a plan of action for fighting human trafficking to the Moldovan Government following the moving up of Moldova to Tier 2 Watch List of the U.S. Department of State. <\/p>\n

The plan of action was handed over by the U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Asif Chaudhry to Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanai on November 6.

\n”The plan of action lays the stress on the continuous identification of the persons holding important positions suspected of involvement in human trafficking and their punishment in court,” Asif Chaudhry said. <\/p>\n

The plan envisions the working out of a Code of Conduct for the persons involved in activities aimed at fighting trafficking, provision of assistance to the victims and protection to the witnesses and other persons involve din legal cases, informing of the public opinion about such cases, etc. <\/p>\n

Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanai said that the Moldovan authorities realize the importance of combating trafficking in human beings and improving coordination of anti-trafficking activities. Therefore, there was instituted a new post of Deputy Prime Minister, which is held by Valentin Mijinschi. <\/p>\n

According to the Premier, the new Deputy Prime Minister on Corruption Fighting Matters will take measures to step up the work of the Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons and of the Governmental Commission that coordinates the activities of the specialized bodies.
