Representatives of local agencies that work with American sponsors and recruit Summer Work and Travel Program participants say that over 22 million dollars was transferred to Moldova this year by students that went to the United States through the given program. On student sent home by 4,000 dollars on average. <\/p>\n

Andrei Vasilita, marketing director of Acord Travel Company, told the reporters on Wednesday that 15-25% of the students did not return home when the program for 2008 finished, in contrast to roughly 30% the previous year. He said that this is better than in Romania and Russia, but the situation is still worrisome. <\/p>\n

Speaking about the financial crisis that hit the United States, the Student Adventure director Nicolae Patlati said that it would not seriously affect the Work and Travel program. He stressed that the U.S. authorities try to promote the recreational centers in the U.S. and the demand for students could rise. \"\"<\/p>\n

Students complain that the costs they incur to go to the United States through the program are higher than in Romania, Bulgaria and Russia, but representatives of the local agencies say that the costs were adapted to the situation in Moldova. The program participants incur costs of 3,500 dollars and over. <\/p>\n

Vasilita said that some of the programs in Romania and Bulgaria are cheaper because the students look for employment themselves. He also said that the prices of 350-800 USD offered now by some of the agencies are dumping prices and do not cover all the expenses. The programs offered by these companies are not safe. <\/p>\n

The Summer Work and Travel program was launched in Moldova in 2002. Since then, over 12,000 Moldovan students have participated in the program. About 5,500 students went to the U.S through the program this summer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
