The stubble fields continue to be burned after harvesting this year too. According to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, about 1,200 hectares of stubble fields have been burned in Moldova this summer, the damage caused to the soil being estimated at over 300,000 lei. <\/p>\n

According to ecological inspectors and agencies, such cases have been identified in practically all the districts of the country. Though the economic entities that cultivate cereal crops have been warned not to allow burning the stubbles as this has a negative impact on the environment, they continue doing so. <\/p>\n

According to the Ministry, the organic substance in the layer of fertile soil and the microflora and useful insects are being destroyed by fire. The recovery takes a long time. <\/p>\n

In all the identified cases, the ecologic inspectors calculated the damage caused to the soil and drew up reports that were sent to court. As it is difficult to find the person to blame in most of the cases, the beneficiary or owner of the land bear overall responsibility. <\/p>\n
