The drinking water supply in the capital city and suburbs could be stopped in connection with the floods expected in Vadul lui Voda town. The residents of the municipality of Chisinau are asked to store water and make reserves. <\/p>\n

At Monday’s meeting of the City Hall, Alexandru Becciev, the director of Apa-Canal Chisinau SA, said that the water in the Nistru has already reached an alarming level and the pumping station in Vadul lui Voda town, which supplies Chisinau with drinking water, could be flooded if the water level increases to 19 – 20 meters. The water level in the Dniester is now about 17 meters. <\/p>\n

Specialists predict that the level of water in the Dniester will increase suddenly towards the end of the day. If the forecasts come true, SA Apa-Canal Chisinau will supply drinking water according to a special timetable, by four hours in the morning and in the evening. <\/p>\n

According to Becciev, 160,000 cubic meters of water have been stored in the reservoirs of Apa-Canal Chisinau. The artesian wells in Ghidighici and Ialoveni will be put into commission. A number of 150 water tanks will be put at the deposal of the Chisinau residents. <\/p>\n
