Only 20% of the public institutions provided information about the incomes earned by the heads of the given institutions at request. The largest part of them ignored the request, a study carried out by the Investigative Journalism Center (IJC) shows. <\/p>\n

Among the institutions that avoid making such information public are the Parliament, the Constitutional Court, the Ministry of Economy and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture, “Moldova-Vin” Agency and others. A number of institutions gave confused answers or refused categorically to offer such information. <\/p>\n

At the meeting of the Investigative Journalists Clubs on July 25, IJC president Cornelia Cozonac said that the institutions that refuse to provide information about the incomes of the civil servants probably have something to hide or the officials own illegal property. “The fact that the public officials refuse to offer such information is rather serious because they are paid from public money and their incomes should not be a secret,” Cozonac said. <\/p>\n

Dorian Chirosca, the director of the Agency on Intellectual Property Protection (AGEPI), earned the largest incomes of the officials that made their incomes public. In 2007, he earned 262,265 lei. He is followed by the AGEPI vice director Ion Daniliuc with a yearly income of 201,927 lei and by the Army Chief of Staff Ion Corobcean with an annual income of 114,062 lei. <\/p>\n

Minister of Reintegration declared incomes of 111,579 lei for 2007, Minister of Culture and Tourism Artur Cozma – 88,723 lei, Minister of Defense Vitalie Vrabie – 82,388 lei, Minister of Local Public Administration Valentin Guznac – 80,810 lei. <\/p>\n

The study was made by the Investigative Journalism Center in cooperation with “Acces Info” Center.
