The Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child in concert with the Chernobyl Association of Moldova on June 30 launched a campaign to raise funds for completing the construction of the sculptural-commemorative complex dedicated to the victims of the Chernobyl accident. <\/p>\n

At the launch ceremony, Minister of Social Protection, Family and Child Galina Balmos said that the construction of the complex situated in Botanica sector of Chisinau was to be finished several years ago, but could not be completed as there was no money. <\/p>\n

According to the Chernobyl Association president Tudor Capatana, the collected money will be used to locate the monument to the victims of the catastrophe and to finish the building of St Gheorghe Martyr Church. The estimated cost of the works is 10 million lei. <\/p>\n

The fundraising campaign will continue until October 15. About 2,700 Moldovans took part in the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident consequences.
