The government established the Journalist’s Professional Day in Moldova on June 12, marked by the birthday of the lamented journalist Constantin Chiroşco, reporter at BASA-press news agency. <\/p>\n

The establishment of a professional day of the journalist follows the examples from other states that have national holidays of the press workers, according to the governmental decision. This holiday aims at enhancing the solidarity between the journalists, improving the trust between the mass-media representatives from both banks of the Dniester river and at forming a civilized media environment in Moldova. <\/p>\n

The date of June 12 was established at the initiative of 28 Moldovan journalists, addressed to Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin, at a 10 June meeting with the media representatives. The journalists tackled prospects, among which the paper deontology, the access to information about the state institutions, the economic problems, including financing, obtaining and placing advertisements. At the same meeting, the head of state proposed to exclude the financial sanctions applied to the journalists for slandering – moral prejudice. <\/p>\n

The journalist Constantin Chiroşco activated at the social-political department of the BASA-press News Agency, as well as the author TV emission Rezonanţă (Resonance). The reporter died at 28 years old, in his apartment, on January 15, 2001.
