The Romanian border police over the first four months of this year identified 128 people hidden in different units of transport that intended to illegally cross the Romanian border to get to other EU countries. Ninety-four of these were Moldovans. <\/p>\n

The Moldovans prefer to hide inside the truck cabs and the transported goods, in the ceilings of the railway carriages, under the benches of the international trains, in the baggage section and under the seats of the cars. <\/p>\n

According to the Romanian border police, the Moldovans can jump off the trains while these are in motion, get onto trailers of trucks while these are in filling stations or parking lots or ask other people to help in exchange for about 3,000 euros. <\/p>\n

Among the most important cases reported between January-April 2008 are: <\/p>\n

On April 16, 20 Moldovan women and two men were found in the baggage section of a truck at Nadlac customs house in Arad County. <\/p>\n

On February 16, two women and three men from Moldova were discovered under the chassis of a trailer of a car at Bors customs in Bihor County. The Moldovans aged between 18 and 29 intended to get to Italy. They were to pay by 3,000 euros to another Moldovan at the destination. <\/p>\n

On February 20, the border police of Curtici border crossing point in Arad County discovered six women and two men, all Moldovans, hidden in the cupboards of a train traveling to Prague. They had forged Romanian identification documents on them. They also intended to get to Italy. <\/p>\n
