Representatives of the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC) disagree with the conclusions presented recently by the Anticorruption Alliance after monitoring how the Moldovan Government is implementing the MCC Country Threshold Program. <\/p>\n

According to the CCCEC director Sergiu Puscuta, the monitoring report contains inaccuracies. He expressed his disagreement and indignation at the conclusions reached by the Alliance. <\/p>\n

Puscuta said that the number of cases lost by Moldova at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) cannot be considered a conclusive indicator when assessing how the Center implements the measures stipulated in the Country Threshold Program because these cases had been initiated long before the start of the monitoring campaign. <\/p>\n

The CCCEC director denied the accusations that the Center works by order, saying that it is the duty of the prosecutor and instruction judge to supervise the prosecution. He denied the possibility that interested persons representing the country’s administration could get involved in the prosecution process. <\/p>\n

Puscuta also said that the CCCEC’s self-assessment report for the first quarter of this year shows that the six objectives included in the program of actions for implementing the Country Threshold Program are adequately implemented. <\/p>\n

The Anticorruption Alliance monitored the impact of the anticorruption policies carried out in a number of areas and institutions. It ascertained that during the monitoring period, the CCCEC had examined nine cases lost by Moldova at the ECHR.
