Some 470 civil servants from the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia and from the northern regions of Moldova have learned the state language as part of a linguistic training program for national minorities implemented between 2005 and 2008. <\/p>\n

The program was organized by the National Association of European Trainers of Moldova (ANTEM). It was carried out in Comrat, Ceadir-Lunga, Cahul, Taraclia, Soroca, Drochia and Balti districts. Most of the participants in the program were civil servants, bookkeepers, policemen, doctors and teachers. <\/p>\n

The results of the program were presented at a news conference on May 14. ANTEM President Lucia Cucu said that the lectures were given by four national experts and 20 trainers that worked out training programs in compliance with European standards. The aim of the program is to improve the linguistic abilities of the civil servants that need the state language in their job. <\/p>\n

Cucu said that ANTEM intends to extend the linguistic training program for national minorities to the towns of Chisinau, Tighina, Edinet and Congaz and to work out a special language teaching program for economists, jurists, social assistants and specialists in public relations. Besides training seminars, ANTEM will also organize summer schools and trips. <\/p>\n

The National Association of European Trainers of Moldova is a nongovernmental, nonprofit, apolitical organization that aims to facilitate the civic, socio-cultural and professional integration, to promote the interethnic tolerance by training and by creating a favorable linguistic environment. The ANTEM program is implemented with the financial support of OSCE, in partnership with IDIS Viitorul.
