Moldova citizens who have fallen victims to the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster shall be supplied with special food products and food supplements removing radio-nuclides from the human organism, Minister of Social Protection, Family and Child Galina Balmos told a news conference here. <\/p>\n

She said the draft Regulations on providing this category of citizens with such food supplements has already been submitted to the Government for consideration. <\/p>\n

A greater part of the Chernobyl victims are the so-called ‘liquidators’ – people who were mobilized by the then USSR Government to liquidate the consequences of the nuclear catastrophe at the Chernobyl nuclear power station (near Kiev). There were over 600 thousand of them mobilized from all regions of the former Soviet Union twenty-two years ago. Presently, there are over 2.7 thousand people on the Moldovan Government’s Chernobyl Register. Of them, nearly 2.5 thousand are already invalids. <\/p>\n

“Chernobyl invalids, as well as the families of the Chernobyl liquidators who have already passed away, receive monthly state pensions. Also, the state provides them with lump-sum allowances. Thus, the allowance for health damage to a veteran is equal to a current average monthly pay size in Moldova, and the lump-sum allowance to the above-mentioned families is equivalent to 15 average monthly pay size. <\/p>\n

Living Chernobyl invalids of Group 1 receive a monthly pension of 1,799 lei, of Group 2 – 1,371 lei, and Group 3 – 693 lei a month”, the Minister said. <\/p>\n
