The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) notified two conviction decisions against Moldova, in which they concluded the authorities broke the right to the freedom of meeting and association, and the non-execution of a court decision. <\/p>\n

On March 27, 2008, they notified the decisions in the causes Roşca, Secăreanu etc. against Moldova and Vacarencu against Moldova, according to Jurists for Human Rights Association. <\/p>\n

In the first cause, the plaintiffs are the leaders of the Democratic Christian Popular Party (PPCD), Iurie Roşca and the deputy president Ştefan Secăreanu. In 2002, five people from Chisinau that participated at an unauthorized action of protest were fined by an instance from Chişinău. Among the offenders were the two PPCD leaders that were fined with 450 lei (up to 44 dollars) each. The other people were fined with 90 lei. All the five protesters submitted complaints at the ECHR. <\/p>\n

The court concluded the authorities broke plaintiffs’ rights to a free meeting and granted material compensations to Iurie Roşca and Ştefan Secăreanu 28 euro each, and six euro each to Petru Buburuz, Anatol Roşcovan and Anatol Eremia; and moral compensations – two thousand euro each to Buburuz, Roşcovan and Eremia, and two thousand euro as costs and expenses. <\/p>\n

In the cause Vacarencu contra Moldovei, Tudor Vacarencu complained that he received a house from the local authorities that was confiscated by a third person. In 1993, the former owner pretended the retro recession of the real estate, but the local council promised him an alternative dwelling, which they did not realize. In March 2000, the plaintiff initiated judicial procedures against the local council, requiring compensations against the received house. <\/p>\n

The court concluded his rights to an equitable process and to the property protection were broken. The court granted the plaintiff 12 thousand euro as material and moral compensations and 875 euro as costs and expenses. <\/p>\n

So far, Moldova was convicted at the ECHR in over 111 cases. The main reasons of the complaints of the Moldovan citizens are the right to an equitable process, to freedom and safety, to the freedom not to be exposed to torture, the right to an effective appeal, to the freedom of expression, to property protection, and to protection of the private and family life, to the freedom of thinking, conscience and religion, and to the freedom of association. \/\/ BASA-Press<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
