In seven days, the Court of Appeal of Balti will say the sentence in the case of the Russian journalist Ilia Zimin, who is supposed to have been murdered in 2006 by Igor Velcev, a young man from the Republic of Moldova, DECA-press transmits. <\/p>\n

At the end of the last year, Velcev was acquitted and released by the Law Court of Ocnita that considered that the evidence presented by the prosecutors is not enough to prove the offender’s guilt. <\/p>\n

At Wednesday’s sitting, a number of judges of the Court of Appeal heard the prosecutor and the lawyers. On April 2nd, it will take a decision in this case. <\/p>\n

Prosecutor Valeriu Temirov asked the court of appeal to close the sentences of acquitting Igor Velcev, asking it to condemn him to 22 years’ imprisonment for the murder of the Russian journalist Ilia Zimin and the fraud crossing the Moldo-Ukrainian borders. <\/p>\n

At the same time, the defence considers that, in front of the court of appeal, the prosecutor didn’t present any new evidence which would certainly prove that Igor Velcev had committed the crimes he was accused of. <\/p>\n
