The number of holy places, namely of churches, registered in different localities of Moldova, increased three fold in the last years. <\/p>\n

Currently, there are 1200 churches, 40 monasteries and ten hermitages activating in Moldova, Moldovan Metropolis Press Secretary Octavian Moşin has said, contacted by BASA-press. This increase follows the great number of people that come to church, namely young men, who financially contribute to the construction of the holy places. “In 1989, there were two hundred churches registered in Moldova, which were located only in the largest cities. Many villages had no church and they were forced to walk some kilometers to assist at the service held in the neghbouring localities. Thus, the program of the priests was overloaded, and the churches – overcrowded”, Moşin said. <\/p>\n

Only in the last two years, they built over three hundred churches, and about one hundred holy places were renovated, according to Moşin. Currently, each locality has a church, and the largest of them have two or even three. Most of them were built from benevolent donations, and from the donations of the local and central authorities, as well. <\/p>\n
