The number of foreign tourists who stayed in Moldovan accommodation facilities last year increased by 12% against 2006, according to the data provided by the National Bureau of Statistics (BNS). <\/p>\n

Most of the tourists who visited Moldova came from Romania (21.1%), Ukraine (11.2%), Russia (9.7%), Turkey (7.8%), Italy (6.8%), the USA (5.3%) and Germany (4.9%). As many as 70.3 thousand foreign tourists or 22.3% of the total number of tourists were accommodated in collective accommodation facilities (hotels, motels, villas). <\/p>\n

BNS specifies that in 2007 the accommodation facilities hosted a total number of 314.6 thousand tourists, of which 244.3 thousand were from Moldova (77.7% of the total number). <\/p>\n

The operational tourist accommodation capacity of the collective accommodation facilities was of 3,939.5 thousand bed-days, similar to the level of last year. The hotels and motels accounted for 30.3% of the total tourist accommodation capacity, tourist villas and vacation villages accounted for 18.3%, vacation camps for children accounted for 25.3%, recovery facilities for 18%, tourist and agro-tourist board and lodgings for 3%. <\/p>\n

Also, the total number of nights spent by tourists in the accommodation facilities reduced against 2006 by 7.8 thousand. Thus, Moldovan tourists accounted for 88.5% of the total of 1,745.2 thousand nights, the rest coming on foreign tourists. <\/p>\n

The average stay per total number of accommodation facilities was of 6.5 days, of which in hotels and motels 3.2 days, vacation camps for children 10.2 days, tourist villas and vacation villages 4.2 days, recovery facilities 16.3 days. <\/p>\n

In 2006 the collective tourist accommodation facilities of Moldova were attended by 312,000 tourists or by 3.4% more than in 2005. <\/p>\n

The most of the lodged foreign tourists (80%) came from European countries.
