Youths from Moldova, including those in the Transnistrian region will be able to participate in the decision-making process within the legislative forum and will accumulate knowledge and practical experience on the parliamentary activity, within the project “Youth’s Parliament” which was launched in Chisinau, on February, 25, 2008. <\/p>\n

The project is designed for the Moldovan youths aged 18–25 and will gather 51 participants. They will be familiarized with the way the Parliament is formed, the functioning of the Parliaments working bodies, the way a legislative initiative must be initiated and debated. The youths are to work in factions, parliamentary commissions and in the plenary sittings. The Parliament will provide working offices for the participants, including the hall for the plenary sittings of the legislative forum. <\/p>\n

Parliamentary Speaker Marian Lupu stated that the aim of the action is the consolidation of the cooperation concept between the Parliament and the civil society. "This project has a target a rather important segment of the society. The Moldovan youths have no necessary means to influence the decision-making process. In this respect, the „Youth’s Parliament” can become an effective instrument of their participation in the public affairs management, because today’s youths are tomorrow’s leaders." Lupu mentioned. <\/p>\n

The speaker specified that this is a project which will offer models of simulation, in real conditions of time and space of political activity, of parliamentary debates in different domains. “I believe that the final stage of the project will result into messages and signals of the youths to the MPs and the whole political class in Moldova in order to build a democratic society on the basis of the European values.” Lupu specified. <\/p>\n

In this context, President of the NGO “Institute of Governing Youth” Sergiu Bejenaru mentioned that this project will offer the possibility to the youth to familiarize with the practices of parliamentary debates. “The youth will express their ideas, the problems they are facing and the solutions to be valued by current MPs.” Bejenaru mentioned. <\/p>\n

Head of “National Democratic” Institute Alex Grigorievs mentioned that this project is important in promoting an active involvement of the youth into the political life and the education of young leaders making them participate in the public affairs management. <\/p>\n

The project is to be developed on April, 9–21, 2008. The selection of participants is to take place on February, 25–March, 21, 2008. The selected people will benefit from introductive trainings on the organization and the functioning of the Parliament, political systems and doctrines and will assist at the plenary sitting of the Parliament. <\/p>\n

The youth who want to participate in the project must send an application form to the e-mail address parlamentul.tinerilor@gmail.com. The application form can be downloaded at www.parlament.md\/parlamentultinerilor. <\/p>\n

Each candidate will have to suggest three topics to be debated in the Youth’s Parliament and to provide arguments to show they are up-to-date.
