Almost 70 thousand people are called Valentine, or derivatives of the name of the “patron of love”, celebrated on February 14. <\/p>\n

As many as 55 457 women are called Valentina and 13 372 men are called Valentin, in Moldova, according to the data offered on the site of the Ministry of Informational Development, which offers data regarding the number of people registered with similar names. <\/p>\n

The Ministry has also registered 28 people called Valea, three – Vali and another three – Valintin, as well as one person called Valentin. <\/p>\n

Saint Valentine is celebrated on February 14, as “the patron of love”. In Moldova, this holiday is honoured, namely by young men offering presents and surprises to their beloved. <\/p>\n

They usually purchase plush toys and hearts. The mobile telephony operators of Moldova launched SMS services with love messages at reduced prices. <\/p>\n

There are more variants of the legend of St. Valentine. One of them says, the priest Valentin opposed the interdiction of Claudius the Second which forbade the Roman soldiers marry so that they are strong when they go to battle. Valentin did not follow the law and celebrated the marriage of a pagan soldier with a Christian woman. Since then, the priest blessed the marriages of the soldiers.
