The Ministry of Education and Youth is reorganizing the secondary education system. <\/p>\n

Ministerial experts explain this by the fact that the number of pupils is reducing year after year. There is a demand only for 491.4 thousand out of 730.1 of educational places, which the republic has. <\/p>\n

Only 67.3% of places in schools and in lyceums are used, in 1\/3 of the raions – even 60%. The situation in Dondiuseni and Ocnita is critical. Only a half of educational places is used there. <\/p>\n

The population’s demographic fall has serious consequences for the education system. According to experts’ forecast, the number of pupils will be reduced by another ¼ by 2014-2015. <\/p>\n

All in all, it is planned to re-organize 332 educational institutions. Five of them are kindergartens, seven – elementary schools, 79 gymnasiums, 220 secondary schools and 21 lyceums. Seventeen kindergartens, 23 elementary schools, 221 gymnasiums, 12 lyceums and 83 district secondary schools will set up on their basis. It is envisaged by the strategy for optimizing the network of secondary educational institutions for 2008-2015. <\/p>\n
