The vicar of the church from the village Recea, the district Rascani, Constantin Dascal, is sued to court by the Ecological Inspectorate after having tried to commercialize 36 firs which were planted in the church yard two decades ago, DECA-press Agency transmits.
\nAccording to the mayor of Recea, Valeriu Ghelan, those 36 firs were meant to be sold and replanted in another locality or even in another country. The money should have been spent on the installation of central heating in the sacred place.
\nWithout having the ecologists’ authorization for this, the vicar addressed the local council which allowed him to sell the firs. The vicar brought forth the argument that “the parishioners’ health is more important than a tree”.
\nThe chief of the Ecological Inspectorate from Rascani, Nicolae Cojocaru, told DECA-press Agency that the vicar’s actions are illegal. Fir removal is not allowed, besides, the vicar did not have the needed authorization. The firs could have been replanted only on the territory of this locality, Nicolae Cojocaru added.
\nThe ecologist claims that as long as the land near the church was not its property, the church yard is a public place, being the property of the local council. This means that the firs could have been sold only at an auction.
