Two Romanian priests, activating within the churches of Cahul, that were forced by Moldovan authorities to leave the country following their lack of a stay permit and labour authorization, requested help from the president of the raion in obtaining the necessary documents. <\/p>\n

Ioan Ţivlea, priest in Cuza Vodă village and Iulian Budescu, activating in Manta village, sent a letter requesting help in solving the conflict between them and the authorities, Cahul Raion President Gheorghe Vasilachi has said, contacted by BASA-press. “We attached the necessary documents to the letter and sent it to the Bureau of Migration and Asylum (BMA) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs”, Vasilachi said. <\/p>\n

The letter was sent on January 17, according to the quoted source. “On January 21, we were told the letter has not been examined yet, and the procedure is still in the process. Without the signature from this Bureau we cannot go on submitting the documents at the Labour Force Agency”, Vasilachi said. <\/p>\n

The Bureau has not received the letter yet, BMA Office Head Tatiana Dodonov has said, contacted by BASA-press. “In this case the priests themselves should come and request a consultation how to obtain the documents for the stay permit in Moldova”, Dodonov said. <\/p>\n

Three priests and a nun with Romanian citizenship subordinated to the Metropolis of Basarabia received, in late December 2007, a deadline of ten days to leave the territory of Moldova. The authorities pretended the stay permit of the priests expired and they had no labour authorization from the Labour Force Agency.
