The reconstruction of the hospital system is the main reform to be implemented in the near years. <\/p>\n

This reform proceeds from the Health Protection Development Strategy for 2008-2017, approved by the Government on Wednesday. <\/p>\n

Minister of Health Protection Ion Ababii remarked that for the last 15 years the number of hospitals in Moldova was reduced from 300 to 65 and the number of beds – from 55 thousand to 22.4 thousand. The provision of the population with hospital places approached the average European level, which constitutes 59 beds per 10 thousand residents. <\/p>\n

"But in order to make the work of the hospital sector more efficient and to increase the quality of medical services, it is necessary to equip hospitals with new facilities, to introduce new up-to-date diagnostic and treatment methods in hospitals", Ababii said. <\/p>\n

In his words, it is envisaged to introduce a new classification of hospitals and to set up first class equipped medical centers. At the first stage four such centers will be set up – one in Chisinau on the basis of the Republican Clinic Hospital and one in each of Balti, Cahul and Bender towns. They are designed to improve the quality of medical services and to make them accessible – both in urban and rural areas. <\/p>\n

According to the minister, new diagnostic and treatment technologies, which will reduce the cost of services and the hospital treatment period, will be introduced. First aid and urgent medical aid center will be restored and equipped with new facilities. <\/p>\n
