\nOn Monday, September 17, the Writers Union of the Republic of Moldova, the Association of Historians of the Republic of Moldova and the Washington-based Moldova Foundation will sponsor the first presentation of the new book in Chisinau. <\/p>\n

Participants will include Andrei Brezianu (author of the first edition) and Vlad Spanu (co-author of the second edition), Ambassador John Todd Stewart (ex-U.S. Ambassador to Moldova, 1995-1998) and Professor Dr. Gheorghe Paladi, Chairman of the Historians Association of the Republic of Moldova. Moderated by Academician Mihai Cimpoi, Chairman of the Writers Union of the Republic of Moldova, the event is scheduled to start at 3:00 PM, at the Writers Union, 89, 31st of August Street. Writers, historians, politicians, publicists, analysts and foreign diplomats will take part in the Chisinau event and offer their comments and views on the book. <\/p>\n

\"\"The Historical Dictionary of Moldova is a U.S.-published work tracing the history of this small and little known eastern European country by way of a basic eye-opener meant to serve the information needs of worldwide and English-speaking readers interested in Moldova. <\/p>\n

“An exceptionally useful book for any English-speaking foreigner interested in the Republic of Moldova” – says Ambassador John Todd Stewart. “A novice can gain a quick orientation from the chronology and introduction and then delve into detail by reading the dictionary entries themselves”. <\/p>\n

On September 19, Andrei Brezianu and Vlad Spanu, together with Ambassador John Todd Stewart will take part in a similar event in Bucharest, Romania. The Bucharest discussion of The Historical Dictionary of Moldova will take place at the Nicolae Iorga Institute of History of the Romanian Academy, at 11:00 AM. The Bucharest event will be chaired by prominent Romanian historian and Academician Florin Constantiniu and attended by numerous Romanian historians, researchers in the history of Moldova and the Moldo-Romanian and Moldo-Russian historical relationships. <\/p>\n

The Historical Dictionary of Moldova was released in April 2007 by the American publishing house Scarecrow Press, as part of its series of European Historical Dictionaries. In over 600 entries the book provides a terse, cross-referenced way of access to Moldova’s history, by means of a terse introduction to persons, places, events, and institutions as well as significant political, economic, social, and cultural aspects. Complete with a detailed Introduction, expanded Chronology, Appendixes, Maps, and an extensive, subject-structured Bibliography, the new edition of The Historical Dictionary of Moldova is the latest welcome addition to works on Moldova published in the U.S. Its foremost distinctive feature is the way in which, by means of its wealth of concise, crisp and precise alphabetical entries it offers a comprehensive, compact view on all aspects of Moldova’s history, both past and present.<\/p>\n
