On August 27, when Moldova is to celebrate the 16th anniversary since the proclamation of independence, Moldovans will be able to see an unusual astronomic phenomenon: the Mars planet is to have a noticeable size comparing to the Moon. <\/p>\n

Contacted by BASA-press, Doctor Petru Lozovanu, the chair of physics, the State University of Moldova stated that on August 27, at 12:30 a. m, people are to witness a phenomenon on the sky which will look like as if the Earth had two moons. "The Mars planet will be 34.65 million miles away from the Earth. It will be the most luminous point on the sky and will look like the full moon. It is assumed that next time the Mars will pass as close as that to the Earth in 2287". According to the specialist, such kinds of phenomena occur when two planets reach one line, and their lights overlap. "The phenomena could remain invisible because of an overpopulated atmosphere." Lozovanu explained. <\/p>\n

The celebration of the Independence day is to start with a bell ringing and a divine service at the "Nasterea Domnului" Cathedral in the capital, after which flowers are to be laid at the Monument of "Stefan cel Mare si Sfant" and at the "Eternity" Memorial Complex. <\/p>\n

The festivity is to start at 10.00 a.m. on the "Piata Marii Adunari Nationale" square with a concert where artistic bands from different cultural centres and educational institutions are to perform. Demonstrative exercises of martial arts, acrobatics, gymnastics, dances and cyclist competitions are to be organized. From 4.00 p. m., an artistic program is to be held where former participants in the project "Cultural Caravel" are to perform. A musical concert performed by the "Lautarii" Folk Orchestra is scheduled at 6.00 p. m. The Academic National Folk Dances Ensemble – "Joc" is to perform at 8.00 p. m.
