As many as four members out of nine of the Coordinating Council of Audiovisual (CCA) have affirmed that the institution might collapse due to pressures coming form the exterior and urged the Parliament to support them in "defending the public interest in the audiovisual domain". <\/p>\n

New CCA Chairman Vlad Turcanu, who was elected ten days ago by a five-member vote, stated on Friday, August 10, within a news conference, that the institution was facing collapse. "The governing party attempted to exercise an authoritative control over the CCA, intending to manipulate the public opinion through the audiovisual institutions, as well as to manage the finances which come from advertising. <\/p>\n

According to Turcanu, some of the CCA members have been intimidated and pressed "in order to make them keep silent and turn them into docile instruments of the authority". Neither Vlad Turcanu nor CCA Deputy Chairman Ludmila Vasilache agreed to name the people responsible for the intimidations. But they pointed out the kinds of pressure that have been exercised, such as "different phone calls, hints transmitted through third parties, threats, philological attacks, fabrication of criminal suits and provocations". <\/p>\n

"Ex- CCA Chairman Corneliu Mihalache was sacked due to the lack of professional incompetence, lack of good fellowship and veiling some information. The interest groups are attempting to set him back in office using illegal means, including the delay to print the CCA decision to dismiss Mihalache in o. g. It should be noted that other decisions made at the meeting held on July 31 were printed. Some of members are intimidated in order to give up their vote or even to resign. <\/p>\n

Contacted by BASA-press, Corneliu Mihalache specified that "the current state of affairs is a scenario made by some political groups interested in undermining both the CCA situation and the social and political condition in the society. "The statements made by some CCA members were predictable." Mihalache said. Mihalache rejected the accusations in line with which he would allegedly be responsible for the fact that the decision of his demission was not printed in o. g. "This is the competence of the o. g. I am not the editor-in-chief of the publication, and I am unaware of why the information was not printed." Mihalache said. <\/p>\n
