Republic of Moldova, obliged by ECHR to pay moral damage of over 11 thousand Euros to a former officer from anti-corruption department <\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the Government of Republic of Moldova lost a trial at ECHR, being obliged to pay moral damage of 11,5 thousand euros to the ex-officer of the Centre for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption, DECA-press Agency transmits. <\/p>\n

Two years ago, he filed a demand at ECHR where he had complained about Moldovan authorities’ inhuman treatment towards him, his arrest and illegal penal investigation on him. <\/p>\n

„Through the decision issued today, the European Court has closed the penal investigation of Gorea, concluding that the Government of Republic of Moldova had violated several rights guaranteed by the European Convention. ECHR decided that \"\"Grigore Gorea was arrested illegally after the expiration of the last judge’s mandate emitted before proposing the case for trial, and the Moldovan law structures didn’t offer any “relevant and sufficient” reasons for maintaining Gorea under arrest”, Alexandru Tanase and Vasile Nicoara, Grigore Gorea’s lawyers say. <\/p>\n

At the same time, the European Court concluded that, despite the fact Grigore Gorea presented enough arguments in his favour, the Moldovan law structures rejected them in an abstract way, without providing any details or evidence which could justify the so-called risks in the case of Gorea’s release. <\/p>\n
