\nThe famous Moldovan wines from Milestii Mici will be tasted at an event organized by the Rotary Club of Washington, DC on May 19th, 2007. The Club organizes its 4th Annual WINE AUCTION at the French Embassy, where wines and spirits will be displayed in the Silent Auction, Live Auction, or at a Wine and Spirit Tasting table. <\/p>\n

Among other wines from around the world, participants will taste Moldova’s best wines from Milestii Mici, the winery that is famous for its Guinness Book entry — owning the world’s biggest wine collection of fine wines. <\/p>\n

\"\"Rare and collection wines from Milestii Mici will be presented by Mr. Eugene McCord, President of the Moldova Georgia USA Business Center dba as WINES OF MOLDOVA, a company based in Georgia, USA that imports Moldovan wines to the US market market. <\/p>\n

Mr. McCord said that his company will present 1984 Aligote, 1987 Codru (receiver of Gold 2005 & Grand Prix 2003), 1987 Negru de Purcari (Buyers Choice 2003), 1988 Traminer, 2002 Pinot Blanc, 2005 Merlot. <\/p>\n

According to the Historical Dictionary of Moldova [2nd edition; the Scarecrow Press, Inc. 2007], the wine industry represents a major sector of Moldova’s economy, which contributes about 25 percent to the country’s gross domestic product. Moldova has an excellent climate, soil, and topography for grapes and 10 percent of the country’s land is covered by vineyards located mostly in the central and southern regions. Oenology specialists and historians agree that Moldova’s lands have been home to vineyards since time immemorial, wine making having probably an ancestry dating back to several centuries before the Roman conquest. As far back as the seventh century BC, Homer’s Iliad alludes to the wine making aptness of the northern people of Thracia. The Greek geographer Strabo describes the abundance of Dacians’ wines and their king’s efforts to regulate their production. The age-old traditions of wine making of Moldova’s ancestors are also documented in Demetrius Cantemir’s 18th-century classic work Descriptio Moldaviae. <\/p>\n
