The Investigative Journalism Centre (CIN) launched the media campaign “Journalists against Corruption” at a news conference held on Thursday, April 19, Info-Prim Neo reports. <\/p>\n

According to CIN Chairman Cornelia Cozonac, the campaign aims at encouraging journalists to get involved in the process of making investigative reporting related to corruption cases, because making them public will help citizens become more active and intolerant of corruption cases. According to the cited source, it was proved that in recent times the number of journalists practicing investigations has considerably reduced, so that one of the goals of the project is to guide and motivate citizens, business people and the representatives of the NGOs to become more active in this fight, to inform the public every time they discover corruption cases. <\/p>\n

Cornelia Cozona says that within the campaign CIN will monitor the way the anticorruption legislation is applied by the public authorities, especially in what concerns the use of public money, the issue regarding the conflict of interests and incompatibility, influence peddling and protectionism, declaration of properties etc. <\/p>\n

Because the investigation of corruption cases implies certain risks and expenses, CIN seeks to start a partnership with the journalists against corruption and to provide financial support to the journalists, that is USD 300 per 20 investigations. At the same time, the legal assistance during the campaign will be provided by the Bureau of Lawyers “Alexandru Tanase”. <\/p>\n

The financed investigations should be of major public interest, to reveal new information, and to reach connections which would denounce the phenomenon. The topics should be thoroughly analysed, from several points of view, and should be based on several sources, and the journalists have to act according to the professional and deontological standards. The applications will be analysed by a council of experts who will verify the submitted materials. <\/p>\n
