Fires and other emergencies killed 302 people in Moldova last year, including 16 children. In 2005, the tragic statistic was 321 and 19, respectively, the Interior’s Emergencies Department has reported. <\/p>\n

Last year, the Department recorded 141 (-9) emergency situations of both natural and technical characters, in which 520 people were killed or injured, and which caused a material damage worth 160 million lei (+39 million lei). <\/p>\n

During the year, Moldovan firefighter units took part in 2,541 fire events, saving 738 persons and 192 million lei worth of property. <\/p>\n

This Wednesday, Moldova will mark the Rescuer’s Day, one of numerous annual professional holidays this republic has. On this occasion, a new office of the local fire and rescue service will be officially commissioned in Basarabeasca town, built with the financial assistance of the U.S. Government which provided 3.8 million lei for the purpose. \/\/ Infotag<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
