Moldovan-Romanian consular consultations at expert level will be organized in January – February to discuss the process of implementation of the Agreement on mutual travelling of the citizens. <\/p>\n

The decision to organize these consultations was taken at the meeting between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE), Valeriu Ostalep and Filip Teodorescu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Moldova. <\/p>\n

According to the MAEIE press service, the discussion focused on how to implement the Agreement on mutual trips of the citizens, by which as of 1 January 2007 the visa regime was introduced for Moldovan citizens who intend to travel to Romania. <\/p>\n

Ambassador Teodorescu informed about the measures undertaken with a view to facilitate obtaining visas by Moldovan citizens as of November 2006. He communicated that Moldovan citizens can submit their individual visa applications, accompanied by the required documents, after fixing an appointment from Monday to Friday online on the Embassy’s webpage. <\/p>\n

Visa applications may also be examined without preliminary registration in emergency cases as expressly established in the Agreement and qualified as exceptional cases by the Embassy Consul. At the same time, corporate visas may also be issued based on the applications of touristic agencies and economic units. <\/p>\n

\"\"Teodorescu assured MAEIE that the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau is working at its maximum capacity, and soon the number of online registrations will be extended from 30 to 100 per day, which will contribute to solving the difficulties related to online processing of registrations which currently face Moldovan citizens. Also, Ambassador Teodorescu informed that the applications to prolong residence permits for the students and schoolchildren studying in Romania are given priority by the Consular Section. <\/p>\n

As regards visa issuance for car transporters of Moldova, the Ambassador recommended that they apply for corporate visas via transporters associations, which will allow them to issue visas in shorter terms. However, individual visa applications are not excluded in this case. <\/p>\n

MAIE press service did not specify whether they spoke about opening two new Romanian consulates on the territory of the Republic of Moldova within this meeting. Bucharest submitted an official request in this regard as early as in Noveber 2006, but Chisinau officials communicated that the examination procedure of the application will last several months. <\/p>\n
