A group of refugees from Transnistria picketed Thursday the government headquarters in Chisinau as a sign of protest against delayed execution of a governmental decision on housing of internally displaced people. <\/p>\n

According to organisers, about 100 persons participated in the picket, while the police indicated some 50 refugees. <\/p>\n

Anatol Bazgu, chairman of the Movement of Transnistrian Refugees (MRT), told BASA that "refugees are unsatisfied that the local authorities are delaying the updating of the list of internally displaced persons who need housing, while the money allocated from the state and municipal funds for construction of residential blocks was not used so far." <\/p>\n

\"\"Contacted by BASA, Petru Corduneanu, deputy police chief of Chisinau, told BASA that the protest was not authorised and the legal measures stipulated by Administrative Code will be applied if needed be. <\/p>\n

The BASA reporter said from the scene that an adviser of prime minister proposed protestors to delegate a working group to negotiate solutions to problems of refugees at a meeting with Premier Vasile Tarlev. <\/p>\n

The Chisinau City Hall turned down on September 8 an application of MRT for authorisation of protests, saying that "the invoked reasons are groundless." The decision was made at a sitting with the participation of decision makers in charge with housing of internally displaced people. <\/p>\n

About 9 million lei was allocated in 2005 for construction of two residential blocks for internally displace persons from Transnistria, of which 5 million lei from the reserve fund of the Moldovan executive and another 4 million lei from the fund of the Chisinau City Hall.
