Passengers in the Chisinau municipality pay one leu for a trolley ticket, two lei for a bus ticket and three lei for a minibus ticket, under a decision of the Chisinau Municipal Council, starting August 1. <\/p>\n

Veaceslav Tarna, head of the public transportation and communication directorate in the Chisinau City Hall, said that the rise of transportation tariffs will partly cover the transportation expenses and the Chisinau Municipal Council will review them in early 2007. <\/p>\n

At the same time, Tarna noted that the real cost of a trolley ticket is 1.57 lei, a bus ticket costs 4.12 lei in reality and a minibus ticket – 4.5-lei. \"\"<\/p>\n

Earlier, Reghina Apostolova, municipal councillor on behalf of the Communist Party, said that "the tariffs for bus and trolley tickets have delicately grown, so that not to affect vulnerable categories of passengers." "That’s why the transportation taxes have summarily grown especially for passengers of urban transport who earn low salaries," Apostolova added. <\/p>\n

At the same time, Oleg Onisenco, chairman of the association Casa Noastra Chisinau, has stated to BASA that "the rise of tariffs was not considered well as regards the impact on Chisinau residents with low earnings." "We know very well that neither salaries, nor pensions have been increased. The higher transportation tariffs will affect all vulnerable categories of passengers at once, from students to retirees," he feared. <\/p>\n
