Representatives of the war veterans’ organisations from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, along with Moldovan veterans will participate in the official inauguration, after reconstruction, of the Chisinau-based Eterninate (Eternity) Memorial Compound on 24 August 2006. On the occasion of the anniversary of Moldova’s liberation from fascism, events will be also organised at the Serpeni Bridgehead from the Anenii Noi district, east of Chisinau. <\/p>\n

President Vladimir Voronin made statements to this effect at a working visit focused on the reconstruction works of the Eternity Memorial Compound and enlargement of the Pan Halippa street. <\/p>\n

The head of state told press that these works are carried out according to the schedule, so they will be completed a few days before the event – on 20-21 August. Asked by journalists to refer to the project’s financing, Vladimir Voronin said that, after the compound is opened, all the works will be assessed, and the spent money will be transferred to enterprises, which employees will be remunerated. <\/p>\n

Touching upon the Chisinau city hall’s financial possibilities and its commitments, the president positively appreciated the municipal authorities’ planning and construction activities carried out over the last two years, when the city hall started to collaborate with the central authorities. <\/p>\n

Acting Chisinau mayor Vasile Ursu said that a high tension is registered at both construction sites – Eternity Memorial Compound and Pan Halippa street – which comes from the responsibility to meet the set deadlines, 24 and 27 August 2006, respectively, by the anniversary of Moldova’s liberation from fascism and the Day of the Republic. Ursu also said the project on enlarging the Pan Halippa street is estimated at about 70 million lei, and 35 million lei will be spent to reconstruct the memorial compound. <\/p>\n
