Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin today awarded state distinctions to the National Army servicemen who participated in the post-conflict international mission in Iraq during six months. <\/p>\n

Under a decree by the head of state, the third-degree order Credinta Patriei (Loyalty to Motherland) was awarded to captain Ghenadie Bulgac, major Mihail Semionov and lieutenant-colonel Vitalie Stoian for irreproachable military service, participation in international peacekeeping operations and courage showed while fulfilling the military duty. <\/p>\n

The president conferred the Meritul Militar (Military Merit) Medal to lieutenant-colonels Anatolie Clima, Igor Gorgan, Andrian Moroi and Nicolae Petriciuc. The medal Petru Vitejie (For Bravery) was awarded to major lieutenant Iurie Batir, adjutant warrant officer Valentin Cucos, captain Andrei Grisin and major lieutetant Nicolae Cheleghen. <\/p>\n

At the awarding festivity, President Vladimir Voronin said the Moldovan military’s excellent service while fulfilling the post-conflict humanitarian mission in Iraq contributed to promote Moldova’s image abroad and its capacity as state to help by concrete actions to create a viable security system worldwide. <\/p>\n

"The National Army servicemen’s participation in humanitarian international operations fits into the international community’s efforts to combat terrorism, and assure stability in the world. The invitation to participate in the post-conflict operation in Iraq is an honour and a major responsibility for Moldova," the head of state said. <\/p>\n

Vladimir Voronin thanked the military for having successfully carried out the mission. At the same time, the president urged the new National Army contingent, which will continue its post-conflict mission in Iraq, to honestly promote the country’s image, and to show the Moldovan miliary’s capacity to fulfil the entrusted missions. <\/p>\n

Lieutenant-colonel Vitalie Stoian thanked the country’s leadership for the confidence offered to those 11 servicemen, when they were sent to fulfil the international mission, stressing that the miliary honestly fulfilled the task. Stoian handed to the president a present as a memory from the contingent. <\/p>\n

Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin today awarded state distinctions to the National Army servicemen who participated in the post-conflict international mission in Iraq during six months. <\/p>\n
