Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin was designated as the man of the 2005 year, as most of the participants in a survey carried out by the Opinia Independent Sociology and Information Centre (SISI Opinia) gave their votes for him. Voronin ranks first the fourth year in a row in terms of Moldovan personalities dealing with various social and political sectors . <\/p>\n

SISI Opinia director-general Tudor Danii today told journalists that Speaker Marian Lupu ranks second with 10.8 per cent, being followed by Dorin Chirtoaca with 7.5 per cent . <\/p>\n

The respondents consider that the most important event that took place in 2005 was the "Parliamentary political coalition, consensus and partnership between the Moldovan Party of Communists and the Christian Democratic Popular Party, the Democratic Party and the Social Liberal Party as regards the president’s election and the setting up of the new government". <\/p>\n

The second important event is "Moldova’s firm orientation towards the European Union , including the signing of the EU Action Plan for Moldova". Thus, most of the respondents – 46 per cent, or 13 per cent more against 2004, consider that Moldova chose a good and correct way. The negative appreciations in this respect have considerably dropped. <\/p>\n

Asked whether large-scale political rallies similar to those triggered by the elections in Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan could take place in Moldova, 65 per cent of the respondents said such events will not occur in our country, and only eight per cent are sure that it can happen. <\/p>\n

The on-line survey was carried out from 22 December 2005 to 24 January 2006 on a sample of 834 internet users, and it has a 3.5-per cent error margin.
