Moldova has asked 18,700,000 dollars from donor countries for prevention of bird flu, Minister of Health and Social Protection Ion Ababii told a news conference on Wednesday. <\/p>\n

According to the minister, Moldova made public this request at the International Conference of Donors on control on bird and human flu, which Beijing hosted between January 17 and 18. Ababii said that Moldova needs this money for technical endowment and preparations for diagnosis and treatment of birds and people, as well as for compensation of eventual losses. <\/p>\n

International organisations participating in the conference such as the World Health Organisation, the World Bank, the United Nations, the European Commission asked all donor countries to participate in the financing of a project on combat of bird flu, which would cover all countries, in line with risk level. As much as 1,840,000,000 dollars was raised at the conference. <\/p>\n

In Beijing, 100 countries including Moldova signed a statement in which they committed themselves to exchange information on situation regarding bird flu rapidly and transparently, to ensure the elaboration, spreading and implementation of bird flu control practices in compliance with international standards, and to evaluate and assess periodically the results and impact of action plans. <\/p>\n

The countries that joined this declaration will benefit of a technical and financial assistance needed to optimise the measures against bird flu. Different experiences obtained during combat of bird flu on birds and stop of infection on people were presented at the conference, the participants discussed possibilities to use the vaccine against bird flu on birds and people, as well as of anti-flu preparations, methods of isolation of epidemic hotbeds, elaboration of economic and administrative measures for stop and limitation of development of epizooties and appearance of flu pandemic. <\/p>\n

According to data of the World Health Organisation, 149 cases of infection of people with bird flu virus A(H5N1) and 80 deaths confirmed through laboratory examinations were reported on January 19. The cases were registered in six Asiatic countries: Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and four cases were recently recorded in Turkey.
