\"\"Last night, the frosty weather persisting in Moldova since last Wednesday was next to breaking the country’s historic records during the 120 years of instrumental measurements here. In the northern raions of Soroca and Kamenka, the air temperature reached minus 30 degrees centigrade, and in Chisinau – minus 25. <\/p>\n

Moldova’s absolute cold record was registered on January 20, 1963, when the air temperature dropped to minus 35.5 degrees in the northern Edinet raion. On one of the days in that memorable January, the air temperature in Chisinau reached 30 degrees below the freezing point. <\/p>\n

It is noteworthy that one of the coldest days in the Moldova’s history – minus 25 degrees on the average in the republic – was on January 23, 1907. <\/p>\n

The Chisinau Weather Center says next two nights are going to be as frosty as the past one. Then it will get a little warmer but, all the same, temperatures of under minus 10 degrees will persist at least till this weekend. <\/p>\n

In Chisinau, lessons have been cancelled in all schools, although none of them is facing a problem with central heating. This past weekend, several vagabonds died of cold in the streets. <\/p>\n
