Veterinary services started working at another 12 Moldovan-Ukrainian customs checkpoints, which have provided no such services so far, the head of the Moldovan Agriculture and Food Ministry’s veterinary medicine agency, Dumitru Ierhan, has told MOLDPRES. <\/p>\n

The ministry held a meeting with the heads of the Moldovan customs checkpoints, during which they were once again informed about measures to prevent the bird flu virus. All the vehicles crossing the Moldovan border with Ukraine and Romania are obligatorily disinfected. <\/p>\n

The Veterinary Medicine Republican Centre continues to carry out tests in poultry. So far, about 2,300 such tests have been made, and they all were negative. At the same time, the Moldovan Veterinary Service signed a contract with the Romanian similar institution on carrying out, if needed, the necessary tests at the Bucharest specialised laboratory. <\/p>\n

Ierhan specified that, next February, a specialized laboratory will open in Chisinau. It will be able to identify all the bird flu virus’ subtypes. The necessary equipment for the laboratory was purchased due to the European Commission, which provided Moldova with about 300,000 euros in order to prevent the bird flu. <\/p>\n

The deputy head of the State Ecological Inspectorate, Mihai Mustea, said that hunting, including the one of wild birds, is prohibited at present. <\/p>\n

The Chisinau authorities adopted plans and programmes to prevent the bird flu. A governmental antiepizootic commission was set up, and a comprehensive plan was approved to this end. <\/p>\n
