Contacted by BASA, Ion Mamaliga, chairman of the Association of Private Transporters, said that "this decision of the executive is an evident assault on small business. This decision is good nor for the executive because the withdrawal of about 4,000 minibuses means the joblessness of more than 8,000 drivers and the cabinet of ministers does not have any offer for them. Even more, the interest of passengers is also harmed because neither the state, nor the Chisinau City Hall is ready to replace the absent transport." <\/p>\n

"The government did not establish any date when to withdraw minibuses from routes. Even more, the governmental decision was not published in the official gazette Monitorul Oficial, so that it is not legal yet," Mamaliga noted. He underlined that "the decision is very confused because minibuses have recently been reassembled and the re-equipment is legal, while vehicles have functioning terms approved by the Republican Directorate of Traffic Police. However, the government did not say anything about this re-equipment in its decision." <\/p>\n

Earlier, representatives of the Association of Motor Passenger Transporters of Moldova (ATACM) have proposed that these transportation units be withdrawn within at least 2-3 years. According to a statement of ATACM, the governmental decision cannot be executed because of the shortage of transports and money to purchase other minibuses. The present condition of roads does not allow the use of modern transports. <\/p>\n

ATACM says that one part of minibuses cannot be replaced by buses because some roads in the capital and suburbs are too narrow. <\/p>\n

Grigore Baltag, economic adviser for the executive who is in charge with the minibus problem, was unavailable to give details in this regard. <\/p>\n

According to data of the Union of Transporters, about 80 percent of motor transports for passengers are reassembled. <\/p>\n
