Teachers have given up the intention to hold protests on the first day of school after the winter vacation. They decided to postpone the protests after the government has promised to increase their salaries by 40 percent. <\/p>\n

Nadejda Lavric, deputy chairwoman of the Education and Science Union, stated to BASA that most of teachers have agreed to wait until publication of the law that stipulates a 40-percent rise of salaries of teachers in the official gazette Monitorul Oficial. "If this law is not published in January, teachers will protest the next month," Lavric noted. <\/p>\n

Teachers from the districts of Anenii-Noi, Criuleni, Dubasari, Ialoveni and Straseni held a sitting in late 2005 and said that the 40-percent rise of their salaries will not improve the situation. They solicited the introduction of a system to index the salaries in dependence of the rise of minimum consumption basket, while the salary of auxiliary personnel in education sector be increased proportionally with the wage of teachers. <\/p>\n
