Progresses registered in the higher education sector after Moldova has become part of the Bologna Process are not fully satisfactory, according to participants in an international seminar themed Evolution of th e Bologna Process in Moldova, which Chisinau hosted on December 8 and 9. <\/p>\n

The seminar focussed on issues related to insurance of quality of education and reforms in higher education sector. <\/p>\n

Contacted by BASA, Gheorghe Rusnac, rector of the State University of Moldova (USM), said that "we still have a lot of work to do regarding quality of higher education and education system in university institutions. From that reason, we should not be flattered by praises of foreign experts; otherwise we forget that we still have a lot of changes to make in this sector. There are many dilemmas related to granting of credits, and recognition of indigene diplomas abroad." <\/p>\n

Pantelemon Varzari, dean of the faculty of international relations and political sciences of the Institute of Political Studies and International Relations, stated to BASA that "the institute has implemented the credit system since 2001, under the USM ae gis, as a pilot institution. Therefore, it was very easy to us to adjust to the rigours of the education system in the Bologna Process." "We have also faced different problems in evaluating knowledge of students in the process of adjustment to the new st andards of the education system," Varzari added. <\/p>\n

According to Adam Smith, lecturer from the United Kingdom, "the United Kingdom faces many dilemmas in the process of reformation of higher education like Moldova. As for example, the number of credits that must be granted is not respected because all uni versities in the United Kingdom are private and not all of them have complied with the Bologna Process." <\/p>\n

The participants in the seminar noted that less than 10 percent of students of institutions of higher learning know about the Bologna Process. <\/p>\n

Taking part in the seminar were representatives of Moldovan universities and international experts from Romania, the United Kingdom and Finland. <\/p>\n

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport organised the international seminar Evolution of the Bologna Process in Moldova in cooperation with the Council of Europe, Moldovan Board of Rectors and the Institute of Public Policies. <\/p>\n
