\"\"Defense Minister Valeriu Plesca will participate in the meeting of the South East Defense Ministerial (SEDM) due to take place in the period of 6-8 December in Washington DC, USA. <\/p>\n

Valeriu Rusu, spokesman for the Defense Ministry, told REPORTER.MD that the meeting will address issues related to the development of SEDM under evolutions of regional security, consolidation of borders and organization of peacekeeping operations. <\/p>\n

Rusu specified that Moldova participates in the meeting as observer. The signature of the document that concerns Ukraine’s adhesion to the SEDM Process will take place also in Washington. <\/p>\n

In Washington Valeriu Plesca will have bilateral meetings with his counterparts from other states. They will discuss issues regarding the bilateral cooperation in 2006. <\/p>\n

The goals of the SEDM initiative, which was launched in March 1996, are promotion of regional cooperation and of good neighborhood relations, development of defensive capacities and of cooperation through concerted efforts, etc. <\/p>\n

The states participating in this initiative are Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Romania and Turkey. Croatia, Slovenia, the USA and Moldova participate in the political and military consultations as observers.
