The Russian TV station “Pervyi Canal” (First Channel) is concerned over the situation created with the broadcast license for the third national network through which the respective TV channel is retransmitted and that was granted recently to a new operator at a contest organized by the Audiovisual Coordinating Council (ACC). <\/p>\n

According to the statement released by “Pervyi Canal”, the Chisinau authorities considered as invalid the broadcast license of the company which was ensuring the rebroadcast of the Russian public channel in Moldova, it being offered to “Media Satelit” JSC. <\/p>\n

“The Russian channel’s administration specified that it did not receive official explanations concerning the contest’s organization and it does not know for what reasons the license of the Company “Analitic Media Grup” (AMG), the partner of the Russian “Pervyi Canal”, was withdrawn. AMG had the full right to rebroadcast the Russian channel in Moldova until 31 December 2010”, the statement reads. <\/p>\n

Under these conditions, “Pervyi Canal” seeks the suspension of the contest’s results until the situation is clarified. <\/p>\n

Contacted by REPORTER.MD, ACC president Ion Mihailo stated that through the phrase “the Chisinau authorities the statement’s signatories prove that they do not want to understand the provisions of the Moldovan legislation, as ACC does not represent power, it is just an independent authority. <\/p>\n

“Another question arises here, why “Pervyi Canal” asks money for being rebroadcast abroad, while the Romanian channel “TVR 1” pays money itself for being retransmitted on the territory of Moldova. That’s why we consider it a political act that we can not accept. Thus, ACC is willing to discuss the possibility of stopping the rebroadcast of the station in Moldova with its administration,” Mihailo told. <\/p>\n

Anatol Golea, director of “Pervyi canal v Moldove” channel, told REPORTER.MD that he will not comment on the statements made by the Russian TV channel, reiterating only his disagreement with ACC’s decision. “We appealed to the court and we wait for the first sitting which is likely to take place next week,” Golea said. <\/p>\n

It should be mentioned that on 18 October currently ACC decided to grant the broadcast license for the use of the third national network to “Media Satelit” Company, the broadcast license of the Company “Analitic Media Grup” being declared as invalid. <\/p>\n
