\"\"The minibuses circulating on the thoroughfare of the capital have been redirected to the streets adjacent to the Stefan cel Mare Boulevard this morning. <\/p>\n

Under an order of the Chisinau City Hall form November 11, the routes of the minibuses were modified in connection with the traffic congestion in the center of the capital, increased number of road accidents and high level of pollution. Following the order, 18 minibus routes that were circulating on or crossing the Stefan cel Mare Boulevard have been redirected to the parallel streets. <\/p>\n

To meet the transport necessities of the passengers, the number of trolleybuses and buses circulating on the thoroughfare was increased. The traffic police is to ensure the fluidity of the traffic both on the boulevard and on the adjoining streets. <\/p>\n

Ion Mamaliga, chairman of the Private Transporters Association (PTA), told REPORTER.MD that the terms and ways of redirecting the private transport were not the most appropriate. In his opinion, they were to redirect the individual transport first and then the private passenger transport. “Under the given circumstances it is rather probable that the adjacent streets will also form traffic jams, even larger than those on the boulevard before,” Mamaliga reasoned. <\/p>\n

Vasile Ursu, who resigned from the post of acting mayor during the electoral campaign, told the agency that “this thing was necessary and it was agreed on by the minibus owners and transporters”. <\/p>\n

Ursu had previously stated that it would be impossible to redirect the minibuses before new transports units were not bought. <\/p>\n

Ursu has said that if traffic jams appear on the adjacent streets they will resort to the removal of the individual transport from some streets parallel to Stefan cel Mare Boulevard. <\/p>\n

Petru Corduneanu, the capital’s deputy commissar, said that the situation is under control at the moment. “No traffic congestion was reported on the adjacent streets until now and the traffic agents help the drivers and passengers if necessary,” Corduneanu told. According to him, it would be appropriate to limit transport’s access by 70-80 percent so that the routes are redirected to the North and South Bus Stations. <\/p>\n

On the other hand, the minibus drivers have expressed their dissatisfaction with the modifications. They said that the possibility of traffic jams is higher now if taking into account the heavy traffic and the low capacity of the respective streets. <\/p>\n

The Chisinau residents have also voiced discontent saying they were not announced about the changes beforehand and they face now inconveniences. <\/p>\n

“I sea no reason why to remove the minibuses from the boulevard given the functionality of the thoroughfare as it connects the main places to which the residents of the capital travel. It is very difficult to go to the Central Market for instance, do the shopping and walk on foot two quarters to take the minibus,” an indignant woman said. <\/p>\n
