During his second visit to the City Hall President Voronin conferred with the acting mayor of Chisinau Mihai Furtuna, with Vasile Ursu, former acting mayor who stepped down as mayor during the electoral campaign, and with other municipal officials. <\/p>\n

The President sought from local public administration to modify the routes of minibuses in such a way that starting November 14 they do not circulate on Stefan cel Mare Boulevard, municipal councilor Oleg Cernei who was present at the working meeting told REPORTER.MD. <\/p>\n

“This is abuse of power as only the Chisinau Municipal Council is empowered to introduce modifications to transport regulations. The City Hall sets the routes of the minibuses in line with the contracts concluded between minibus owners and local public administration,” Cernei said. <\/p>\n

Vasile Ursu, independent candidate for mayoralty, told REPORTER.MD the modifications of the routes until November 14 is unrealistic. <\/p>\n

“They can seek it from us, but until we do not purchase the necessary number of buses we will be unable to do something. I am saying this for the other candidates for mayoralty not to make any erroneous suppositions as regards my blind execution of President’s orders,” said Ursu who is supported by the Communist Party, the Democratic Party and personally by President Voronin in the electoral campaign. <\/p>\n

Ursu pointed out that he would require from the Government the sum of 100 million lei necessary for the purchase of new buses and trolleybuses. <\/p>\n

Ion Mamaliga, chairman of Private Transporters Association, considers it impossible to change the routes of minibuses in just several days. It could paralyze the circulation of minibuses on the streets adjacent to the central boulevard. Moreover, there are the contracts between the minibus owners and the City Hall that envisage that all transporters and passengers should be announced two weeks beforehand about the introduction of any modifications, Mamaliga said. <\/p>\n
