Application materials for the 2006-2007 US Embassy Policy Specialist Program (EPS) are available for download or completion online at http:\/\/www.irex.org\/programs\/eps\/application.asp. The application deadline is March 1, 2006. <\/p>\n

EPS Program Information <\/p>\n

The US Embassy Policy Specialist Program (EPS) offers US senior scholars an opportunity to conduct research abroad while serving as experts to a US embassy or consulate. Successful applicants will demonstrate how their experience, skills, and knowledge will benefit US Embassy personnel, as well as the academic merit and feasibility of their proposed research. <\/p>\n

Grantees will serve the embassy or consulate and conduct their own research for approximately one month. Grant length and dates will be decided upon in consultation with the specific embassy or consulate. Examples of embassy service can include attending meetings, giving lectures, writing policy papers, assisting with grant panels, and consulting with embassy policy staff. <\/p>\n

This year, EPS is accepting applications in the following fields and countries: <\/p>\n

Chisinau, Moldova
\n* Banking (specifically lending, mortgages, agricultural financing, financial instruments)
\n* Public debt management
\n* Energy regulation <\/p>\n

Dushanbe, Tajikistan
\n* Tajik Diaspora and narcotics trafficking
\n* Study of the "Black Market" and the market economy
\n* Islam in Tajikistan
\n* Economic impact of narcotics trafficking
\n* Migration trends
\n* Economic and political integration of Central Asia
\n* Family survival strategies in extreme poverty <\/p>\n

Ekaterinburg, Russia
\n* Economic diversification (from a public policy angle, specifically how different regions in the United States have reoriented their economies)
\n* NGO development (focus on organizational methods and encouraging community involvement)
\n* Higher education media program development <\/p>\n

The EPS grantee will be hosted by the US consulate in Ekaterinburg, Russia. <\/p>\n

Financial Provisions <\/p>\n

The grant covers travel and living expenses, including:
\n* Roundtrip airfare from the United States to the host country
\n* Stipend to cover in-country costs for meals, lodging, and local transportation
\n* Visa expenses
\n* Medical evacuation insurance <\/p>\n
