\"\"Traffic police agents run the risk to pay fines starting November, if they will stop cars without any grounds, Alexandru Ciobanu, chief of the traffic police directorate in the Interior Ministry, told a news co nference on Monday. <\/p>\n

According to Ciobanu, this reform is part of a set of reorganization measures that the Moldovan executive has proposed for traffic police. "Policemen will patrol certain traffic segments in continuation, but they will hold the right to stop only wanted c ars, automobiles suspected of being involved in illegal activities or participating in special operations," Ciobanu added. <\/p>\n

However, if police officers stop a car without any ground, the motorist can call 255-513 to notify the traffic police chief, or 255-920, the number of guard unit, while the guilty persons will receive administrative sanctions or will be sacked, depending on violation, Ciobanu underlined. <\/p>\n

Under reorganisation measures proposed by executive, the Traffic Police Directorate will reduce its personnel by 150 employees, and authorities plan to install technical supervision devices by 2007. Ciobanu stressed that the implementation of this projec t costs about 10 million lei and therefore, it will be possible only with the financial support of the government and local public administrations. <\/p>\n

The traffic police will change criteria of selection of future employees. Colonel Mihai Cibotari, deputy chief of the public order directorate, told journalists that future employees will be selected on basis of education, intellect, professional experie nce, and their look. He noted that the traffic police agents will have to speak a foreign language, to be at least 1.75 metres tall, not fat. The policemen will attend courses of foreign languages and sport training, in order to comply with these standar ds. <\/p>\n
