\"\"The UNESCO General Conference continuing in Paris (October 3 – 21) has voted for giving the right to vote back to Moldova. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration says this will substantially better Moldova’s international image and will let the republic put forward motions in UNESCO. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan Government’s petition on re-acquiring the right to vote in UNESCO was made public at the forum by Moldovan Ambassador to France Andrei Neguta. Speaking at the 33rd General Conference he reminded that Moldova had been silent in the forum since 2001 due to membership fee arrears. Presently, the debt is standing at $1.35 million, after $0.7 million was repaid in 2004 and 2005. <\/p>\n

Moldova has undertaken to clear off the arrears within next decade by repaying the debt gradually. In parallel, current payments shall be effected regularly, the Ambassador stated. <\/p>\n

Andrei Neguta also said the Republic of Moldova will support the candidacy of Koitiro Matsuura for a new term of office as the Organization’s Head. <\/p>\n
