All the minibuses circulating on routes in the capital resumed Friday their activity. <\/p>\n

Ion Mamaliga, head of the Private Transporters Association, told REPORTER.MD that on Thursday evening, a special commission composed of municipal advisors, representatives of all the political factions from the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), arrived to the conclusion that the increase in tariffs for all the types of urban transport is necessary. The commission decided to propose CMC to approve the draft decision under which the tariffs for trolleybus travels will rise to 1 leu, for bus travels to 2 lei and for minibus travels to 3 lei. <\/p>\n

Mamaliga specified that the same commission called on the private transporters to resume their activity so as “to end Chisinau residents’ discomfort on the eve of the Wine Festival due to start tomorrow.” <\/p>\n

At the same time, the quoted source specified that the two day-inactivity of the minibus drivers “was not a strike but a warning given to the local authorities that postpone the examination of tariff increases for over half year.” Mamaliga warned that in case CMC does not take into account the demands of the private transporters in the nearest future, “the warning will transform into well organized protest actions.” <\/p>\n

Oleg Cernei, municipal councilor on behalf of “Our Moldova” Alliance, member of the commission dealing with the examination of the situation in public transport, told REPORTER.MD that at Thursday’s meeting the commission decided to work out a new draft for tariff increases and a plan of actions for redressing the situation in urban transport. Concomitantly, the commission’s members agreed on creating a new commission which would monitor the respecting of the clauses of the contracts concluded with the minibus owners and which would be empowered to suspend the license in case irregularities are discovered. It was instituted a moratorium on issuance of new licenses. <\/p>\n

Many minibus drivers working on route No. 101 told the Agency they resumed their activity because they were assured that the tariff of 3 lei will be approved at the CMC’s meeting from October 11. <\/p>\n
